What to do with Empty Kegs - KeyKeg

Follow these steps to properly dispose of a KeyKeg

Recycling KeyKegs

Empty KeyKegs are 100% recyclable and can be disposed of with your other recyclable items. KeyKegs must be deflated and crushed to be recycled.

Warning: Never, under any circumstance, attempt to puncture a keg. Only recycle depressurized kegs.

Deflating

  1. Place the red deflating tool provided on top of the keg head. It will line up the same way a coupler does.
  2. Press down on top of the keg and turn clockwise until you hear a release of pressurized air from the keg. (This action is similar to opening a child-locked bottle).
  3. Lay the depressurized keg on its side and crush it with your foot to remove some excess air.
  4. Remove the deflating tool and keep for future use.
  5. Recycle the keg in your normal recycling.

For kegs that aren't completely empty

These steps can also be followed if the keg still has some liquid in it.

  1. Place the red deflating tool provided on top of the keg head. It will line up the same way a coupler does.
  2. Press down on top of the keg and turn clockwise until you hear a release of pressurized air from the keg. (This action is similar to opening a child-locked bottle).
  3. Remove the deflating tool and keep for future use.
  4. Push the white plastic plug on the keg head in using your hand or a tool, like a screwdriver, to create an opening.
  5. Turn the keg upside down to dump the liquid remaining inside into a sink or drain.
  6. Recycle the empty keg in your normal recycling.
